  Artie attended the schools of Buffalo Township, graduated from Buffalo Academy and taught school in Hopewell and Hanover Townships. She was a member of East Buffalo Presbyterian Church and was active in the missionary society of the church. She was a charter member and secretary of the Buffalo Grange.
