      OBIT: "The Democrat"........ July 21, 1903 -
Our town was startled on Friday morning by the tidings that Mrs. Emmett Slater had passed away at 12:00 the night before. Like a tired child by the wayside she sank to rest sweetly and peacefully. From her features had passed the look of pain, and in its stead had come one of noble dignity, sweet peace and content.
Mrs. Slater (nee Demetra Waggoner) was not quite 21 years old, and had passed her grown up years in Dyersburg, where she was known and unniversally beloved for her beauty, sweetness of disposition and many charming social qualities. She was the only daughter of her loving mother, Mrs. P. C. Lovelace, the idolized wife of her husband, Mr Emmett Slater, the pride of her only brother, Jacob and the center of a large circle of friends and relatives. Dyersburg Gazette. Mr. and Mrs Slater formerly lived in this city where they had a host of friends who will sympathize deeply with Mr. Slater in this his greatest sorrow. The infant son of Mr Emmett Slater was interred in the city cemetery Sunday afternoon, says the Dyersburg Gazette
